Mindset: The Science of Success
Mindset research is super important to get an inside view of students, how they learn and how they perceive education. There are two basic mindsets that we see in students: Fixed and Growth.
A student who has a fixed mindset believe that their knowledge is fixed and that they cannot go beyond a certain point. These students think that they are either smart or stupid and that no amount of practice can help them grow in subjects that they are not good in.
Students with growth mindsets understand the need for hard work in order to improve their skills. They do not believe there is a cap on their intelligence and realize the need to expand their knowledge.
Students with a growth mindset usually outperform students that have a fixed mindset.

This cartoon shows an example of the differences in children with a fixed mindset versus a growth mindset. It shows that kids with a fixed mindset can miss out on fun activities and opportunities because they don't think they are capable. While those with a growth mindset are excited about the possibilities available to them and are eager to start practicing.
"Researchers were finding that teaching a growth mind-set raised achievement test scores, as well as students’ investment in and enjoyment of school"
